About Us
The Department of Political Science, Kirori Mal College was established in the late 1950s and stands intact with its glory and unmatched prestige. Through the decades the Department has significantly added to the honour of the college and its alumni include various towering personalities in the field of law, civil services, entertainment, academics etc. who continue to serve the nation. The Department has an extremely qualified faculty and many of them are authors of various books in the domain of political science and allied sectors. The Department has had the privilege of having eminent personalities like Frank Thakur Das and Nand Lal Gupta as a part of its faculty.
The Department offers learning in a plethora of subjects in the domain of Political Science ranging from International Relations, Perspectives in Public Administration and Public Policy etc. Besides this, it also offers a Master’s Degree in Political Science. The Professors encourage a quest of knowledge that is deep-rooted in the understanding of the subject and at the same time ensures its practical application in the society.
We annually organise the Frank Thakur Das memorial lecture, the Department Fest ‘Politicana’ and at the end of the academic year the students also organise a farewell for the outgoing batch. In order to build an inclusive learning environment it also annually organises the department freshers. Over the years both curricular and co-curricular activities have been organised by the department on regular intervals in which the students participate proactively. At the end of the year, the department releases its Annual Magazine ‘Awaaz’ which features articles and essays on diverse issues. The Department has organised various debates, discussions, academic lectures and webinars to provide everyone with a uniform learning platform and evolve the students into socially responsible human beings.
Vision
The Department of Political Science envisions securing equal learning opportunities for every individual and ensure the comprehensive and integrated development of students. Our vision is clearly defined by creating a safe and secure environment for learning and evolving the students into critical, informed and argumentative citizens. The Department strives to develop a fundamental understanding of Political science among the students and provide them with a diverse overview of the available career opportunities.
Website Foundation Message
It is often said that the best output comes during the toughest times. March of 2020, the world witnessed an unprecedented event that soon became ubiquitous. The long ongoing pandemic and a series of never-ending lockdowns brought everyone’s life to a halt - colleges, schools, offices, malls and markets, everything remained shut.
It is during these challenging times that the Department of Political Science, Kirori Mal College, University of Delhi, decided to hold its first-ever online election through which the Council of 2020-21 was elected and came to function in an online mode, full-fledged. The work of council was to be shifted online, from webinars to online competitions, trying to make the most out of the Pandemic.
The La Politique of 2020-21, with the constant support of Prof. Roopinder Oberoi, the staff advisor, left no stones unturned and brought this website for the Department of Political Science, Kirori Mal College. The vision behind the website was in our election agenda for this year. Since everything took place virtually, we wanted to have a platform where all the departmental events could be portrayed and presented systematically, as well as provide a platform that belonged exclusively to the students of Political Science
The members of La Politique, with their utmost devotion towards their work for the department, have finally brought to you this website, the first-ever departmental website. Hope this improves transparency and increases our reach to its students.
