Democratic Paradox : A discussion on the Politics and Ethics of the Indian Constitution
La Politique – The Department of Political Science, Kirori Mal College organized a webinar on the topic “Democratic Paradox: A discussion on the Politics and Ethics of the Indian Constitution”.
The guest speaker for the event was Prof Ujjwal Kumar Singh, Department of Political Science, University of Delhi. The event was organized on 25th January 2022, on the GMeet platform. Professor Ujjwal started by giving the introduction of the constitution and Dr. BR Ambedkar. He began by telling about the paradoxes of the Indian constitution and emphasized how a liberal constitution was imposed on illiberal people.
He also talked about ‘Preventive detention’ and how paradoxically it is the part of the part 3 of the Indian constitution i.e. the fundamental rights part. He made the students understand every aspect and component of the Indian constitution. This was followed by a question-answer session where students asked various interesting questions. It was a very insightful and informative session.
