INDIAN ECONOMY AND COVID-19: ASSESSING THE IMPACT

La Politique, Political Science department of Kirori Mal College, University of Delhi organized an

insightful session on Covid-19 and its impact on the Indian Economy on October 19,2020. The

session was organized online via Zoom app. The session was graced by the presence of

Professor Partha Chatterjee, Head of Economics at Shiv Nadar University. Dr. Roopinder

Oberoi, Staff Advisor, La Politique along with the student council members and other students

were the part of the session.

Due to the topic being extremely relevant in the current scenario, the webinar was attended by

over 70 students of the department.

The guest adequately explained about the Indian Economy pre and post pandemic. The

attendees were shown a presentation prepared by the guest speaker which had accurately

accommodated facts and figures. The guest explained all the possible reasons for the Indian

Economy to be amongst the hardest hit economies by the pandemic all over the world. The

session was very interactive as it had equal and active participation of both the parties. Some

important questions such as formalization of economy and profit of attracting more FDIs were

put up by the attendees which were reasonably answered by the guest.

The session ended on a good note after an overall mutual conclusion was drawn out of the

discussion which asked the government to strive hard in the field of employment and

formalization of sectors and the drawn conclusion was addressed by the guest legitimately.
